Root canal treatment in Tunis

When the pulp (the "nerve") of the tooth is inflamed or infected, the pain can become intense and an abscess may form. Root canal treatment consists of removing the affected pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth and sealing it. It lets you keep the tooth instead of extracting it.

It is a precise treatment that takes time and care. It is done under local anaesthesia: the aim is precisely to relieve you.

When is it needed?

  • Spontaneous pain that wakes you at night or lingers after cold or heat
  • A badly decayed tooth whose nerve is affected
  • An abscess, or swelling of the gum or cheek
  • A tooth that took a knock and is changing colour

What happens

  • Anaesthesia and isolation of the tooth for clean working conditions
  • Cleaning and shaping of the canals
  • Filling of the canals, then a temporary or final restoration
  • A crown if the tooth is fragile (recommended on molars)

After the treatment

Some discomfort when chewing is normal for a few days. The tooth must then be restored quickly to avoid fracture or a new infection: a successful root canal treatment must always be protected.

This information is general and does not replace a consultation: every situation is different.

Your questions about: root canal treatment

Does a root canal hurt?

Thanks to anaesthesia the treatment is not painful. It even relieves the pain caused by the infection.

How many visits are needed?

One or several, depending on the tooth and the infection. We tell you after the examination.

Can a root-treated tooth last a long time?

Yes, if it is well restored and looked after. A crown is often advised to protect it.
